TL;DR: Today, we are announcing that all GitHub Copilot plans will transition to usage-based billing on June 1, 2026.

I’ve been using Copilot - and more recently Claude - as a sort of “spicy autocomplete” and occasional debugging assistant for some time, but any time I try to get it to do anything remotely clever, it completely shits the bed.

Now automatically integrated into VS Code, all of you have access to 2,000 code completions and 50 chat messages per month, simply by signing in with your personal GitHub account.

I’ve still not tried GitHub Copilot. I may wait a while longer after reading this.
